Hello everyone

Commander Adam Malkovich, Samus commander during her time in the federation and due to events of Fusion a prominent figure in the Fan fiction I am working on.

However considering the events of Other M he has also become a controversial character within the series and as I have mentioned in past journals I will not ignore the events of Other M, but address them directly.

Even so I felt I should elaborate a bit on my stance regarding Adam and some of my views towards Other M in general are not as negative as one might generally see.

However I have many gripes with Other M as well, it had some big problems, but that is part of what I want to address.

So to start out, how do I view Adam as a character based on Fusion and Other M?

Well I see him as harsh, if downright cold, as even in Fusion after he makes the decision to go against orders and help Samus he is not particularly friendly towards Samus, except for his "any objections, lady?"

Now to quickly address a part here, I think Adam was under the influence of Federation control of what kind of information he could give Samus in Fusion, a lock on his systems of similar preventing him from revealing his identity, which I have seen as the most common theory and which I will use for my fan fiction.

But for Other M the most critical part to me was how it seemed to me like Adam knew much of what was going on aboard the BOTTLE ship ahead of time, like the Metroid experiments.

This influences my view on him, bringing his treatment of Samus down to two conflicting feelings, lack of trust and a desire to protect.

To expand on this. I don't think Adam trusted Samus, but I think he wanted to.

Look at it this way Samus shows up out of nowhere, byt her own words drawn by the same emergency signal, but how can Adam be sure of this? They have not meet for a long time and Samus has done plenty of work for the Federation, for all he knew she had been sent to stop him.

Now I doubt he really believed, but being who he is it was also not a possibility he could dismiss.

At the other end it seemed he knew about the freeze immune Metroids, at the very least he knew about Sector Zero as he knows its self destruct system, so he might have also limited Samus abilities and kept her in the dark to prevent her from stumbling across Sector Zero (which would not have been hard with her full range of powers as you walk past the entrance without the proper powers to access it at one point) and possibly get killed by the Metroids there as he makes it clear he does not think she can survive the battle.

He might have been looking for a way around having to go into Sector Zero, but was cut short by the traitor, which in turn was the final nail that told him he could trust Samus, if he did not already at that point.

Am I guessing, a bit yes, but I think there are points for this interpretation, and most importantly it places a lot of fault on Adam, he made a bad judgement and pays.

And that is important, he is still human, just as Samus is might I add, they can both make mistakes, bad calls and have poor judgement. Adam from my point of view tried to approach it logically and not let his feelings get tangled up, but it went south. Possibly it would have done so even had he been honest with Samus from the start, but who knows?

And that is the interpretation I will be running with, harsh, cold even, very intelligent, but possibly torn between the logic of an action and keeping Samus safe.

Much of Other M's faults, such as the authorize system will be addressed in my fan fiction, from this point of view, but as I have mentioned, computer Adam, from my interpretation did not actually do the Other M mission as he was created before the fatal mission, as such he can only guess on why he did as he did based on Samus report of the events.

I am looking forward to writing these parts as I feel they can bring across a lot of my thoughts on Other M, without trying to glorify it, acknowledging mistakes and giving an interpretation of what happened, like the one above.

Hope you enjoyed this little read and hope you will enjoy my fan fiction when I get the first chapter done.
