Happiness in the eye of a storm

It was early in the morning, when Spyro got back to their cave. He silently snuck inside to not wake Cynder or Vynin and lay down to sleep, next to them. A few hours later, when Cynder woke up, she was quite surprised to find Spyro lying next to her, but the surprise was quickly replaced by a smile as she realized he had flown back in the dark, just to get home as soon as possible.

"Sleep well, my love" whispered Cynder and kissed Spyros chin and Spyro grunted something in response, but kept sleeping. Cynder then went out onto the plateau and did her morning exercises to get the sleep out of her body.

She then went into the cave again and woke Vynin. "Good morning sweetie" said Cynder as the little black dragon ling stretched and yawned.

"Morning mom" said Vynin. "Come, your breakfast is out on the plateau, sweetie, but be silent as you go out there" whispered Cynder.

"Why must we be silent, mom?" asked Vynin whispering.

"Spyro, returned last night and will probably need some sleep" whispered Cynder. Vynin´s face brightened in joy, but she stayed silent and followed Cynder out onto the plateau.

It was midday when Spyro woke up. He yawned and walked out of the cave.

"Daddy!" yelled Vynin and ran over to him.

"Morning sweetie" said Spyro smiling. "I got a present for you from Ryukishin" continued Spyro and took the bottle out of his pouch. Vynin looked at the bottle, interested. "What is it daddy?" asked Vynin.

"Remember our talk about controlling the elements, Vynin?" asked Spyro. Vynin nodded. "When a dragon is learning to control his or her element the dragon usually spends a great deal of time in contact with or near a natural source of that element, but I did not tell you that as I had no idea how we would find a place where you could get into contact with a natural, non harmful poison. Ryukishin had already guessed this might become a problem, however and he made this for you. It is a poison, but it is so weak it cannot hurt anything" said Spyro. Vynin nodded in understanding.

Cynder had been lying close by, listening to the conversation, but now she came over. "The best idea is probably to put this poison in a small basin in Vynin´s own room, so that she always is close to it" suggested Cynder.

"Good idea, let us do it immediately" said Spyro.

They walked into the cave and into Vynin´s room. Here Spyro created a small basin in one of the corner of the room and emptied the bottle into it. Vynin approached the basin, but Cynder put her paw in front of her and stopped her.

Vynin looked questioning up at Cynder. "I am just going to make sure it is as safe as it is supposed to be" said Cynder and slowly dipped one of her claws into the green liquid. Cynder closed her eyes and breathed deeply. A few seconds later she pulled her claw out of the liquid.

"It is really poison, but is also completely harmless as you said, Spyro" said Cynder and removed the paw blocking Vynin. Vynin immediately walked over to the basin and dipped her own claws in it. She stood there for a minute, but nothing happened.

She turned her head towards Spyro with a questioning look. "I don't feel anything, daddy" said Vynin.

Spyro smiled and said "It will come with time. No dragon learns to control his or her element easily. It usually takes months; even years if you cannot get into physical contact with your element and even when you learn it, it still takes time to master. Even I and your mother haven't mastered our elements completely yet and some dragons never do."

Vynin nodded understandingly and went back to dipping her claws and watching the pool.

Spyro and Cynder slowly left the room. "So what was behind the crystal door?" asked Cynder.

"The history of an entire dragon age. Ryukishin is translating it, but he said it will probably take months before he is down" said Spyro.

"That is all? Are you sure it was only that?" asked Cynder.

"It was what Ryukishin said and I got no reason to doubt him. The age is called the age of purple twilight and according to stories passed down over the years, the purple dragons originated in this period" said Spyro.

"That makes it more understandable, but still a crystal door only a purple dragon can open, to protect some history? Something is wrong here, Spyro and I don't like it" said Cynder.

"I understand; I feel the same way. Ryukishin said Malefor visited the room many times, so there must have been more to it, but right now we can do nothing, but wait for the result of Ryukishin´s translation" said Spyro drawing Cynder close.

"But right now we shouldn't worry ourselves. We are a family and we will survive any storm that comes this way together" continued Spyro with a confident smile.

"You are right; we beat Malefor twice, what could be more powerful than him?" said Cynder smiling back. The two dragons walked out onto the plateau and lay down beside each other. Giving each other a quick kiss, they drifted off into a peaceful nap.

Time passed on in the dragon world. Fliera laid her egg and settled down in Warfang with Coldalar. They tended the egg, as well as the bakery they opened. Regular visits from Spyro and Cynder quickly drew attention to the bakery and it soon became a quite profitable business for Fliera and Coldalar, though they had already announced a temporary close up as soon as the egg hatched.

Gairu had helped Fliera and Coldalar set up the shop and had then gone off into the world on his own to reportedly look for lost mysteries, hidden ruins and according to rumors a mate, though not many dragons believed the last part. Cause if he was looking for a mate, then why leave Warfang? The truth was different, though only Gairu himself and the guardians knew it.

Back in Hunters village the old chieftain was assaulted by apes doing a routine scout mission and though Spyro and Cynder quickly discovered the ambush, they were too late to save the chieftain.

Hunter was afterwards appointed the new chieftain and together with Spyro they set up an effective defense against any future ape intrusions in the valley in the form of a rock wall at the valleys base. The wall was manned day and night by cheetahs.

Increased ape activity in many parts of the world also forced Volteer to stay in Warfang and help the other guardians protect the borders, despite him wanting to return to Satenryu and study what was behind the door. After three months the ape activity died down again and Volteer began planning to return to Satenryu.

Three months and a week had passed since the opening of the door and Ryukishin was outside Satenryu for the first time since the door was opened. He was pacing back and forth on the eastern edge of the island, where Satenryu lay and was looking out to the sea.

He had translated the age of purple twilight's history and now he was deeply troubled. "I cannot do this, yes, it is not certain it will happen again, yes, the history might be wrong, yes" he spoke to himself.

He stopped pacing back and forth and sighed. "It is true, yes, I cannot deny it and I must full fill his dying wish, yes, both for his sake and for the sake of the world, yes, this might be the only chance to end this and most certainly my only chance to end it" continued Ryukishin still talking loudly to himself. "But I cannot tell Volteer of this, not until I am ready. He would be a powerful ally, but I cannot afford to have him endanger the plan, yes" said Ryukishin out loud and began pacing back and forth again.

"I must make sure he does not arrive tomorrow like planned, yes, I need more time, yes" said Ryukishin and looked out to sea. There he saw large storm clouds brewing and with a western wind they were heading this way. Ryukishin smiled and taking great care to make sure nobody saw him, he set off towards the clouds. He dived into the eye of the storm and there he discharged a large amount of his own power into the storm clouds, increasing the storms strength to unimaginable levels. "This should do it, yes, he will be forced to stay in Warfang to defend it against the storm, yes, and I get time to finish the plan, yes" said Ryukishin to himself.

He returned to Satenryu and called one of the dragon messengers. "Fly with all haste to Warfang, yes, and warn them that an incredibly powerful storm is approaching, yes" he said to the messenger and the messenger left immediately.

Ryukishin proceeded down into Malefors former room where his laboratory was. "I will fulfill his dying wish and protect this world, yes, even if it means I lose my life in the process, yes. May the goddesses and the chronicler look mildly upon the sin I am going to commit for the good of the world" he thought as he approached the alchemical flask and ingredients.

"What is wrong, Spyro?" asked Cynder.

It was midday the day after Ryukishin had empowered the storm. Cynder was lying on the plateau, relaxing. Her belly was swollen and so large there had to be two eggs and not just one inside her and she was going to lay them soon, that much was also certain.

Spyro was standing on the edge of the plateau and was staring east wards. "A powerful storm is coming, it will hit the valley this evening" said Spyro. "I need to go warn Hunter and the cheetahs, but first we get you and Vynin inside the cave" said Spyro and walked over to Cynder. He helped her up and supported her as they walked into the cave.

As she lay down on the ground inside the main room in the back, Cynder yelled out in pain. Spyro looked at Cynder terrified something had happened, but then he understood.

"What is happening, mom? Is it the eggs?" asked Vynin who had come running out of her room. "yes it is, sweetie" said Cynder.

"Now?! But I have to go warn Hunter and the cheetahs, but how can I leave you now and…" Spyro was panicking fast.

"Spyro, go warn Hunter and then hurry back. I will be okay, I have tried it before" said Cynder camly and twitched as more pain ran through her body.

"Okay, I will hurry back. Vynin look after mom, while daddy is gone" said Spyro and kissed Cynder quickly. "I will be right back" he whispered and disappeared out of the cave at full speed. He returned only half an hour later and hurried to Cynder´s side and supported her.

The storm struck the valley with full force. It was a storm unlike any ever seen before. Large trees were knocked over by the powerful wind or set ablaze by the lightning. The Cheetahs could only pray in the caves where they were, that the storm did not destroy their village completely.

Just inside Spyro and Cynders cave, stood Spyro watching the storm. Its power was terrifying, but it was nothing compared to the happiness Spyro felt. Further inside the cave Cynder and Vynin were sleeping, cuddled around an onyx colored dragon egg and a dark red one.
Quite a bit of story development here, what has Ryukishin read and what is his plan? Hint: It will involve Spyro and his family. Double Hint: It is not a surprise party. Yes i will enjoy not telling you what Ryukishin has learned just yet:)

Gairu, Coldalar, Fliera, Vynin, Ryukishin are my characters and all others belong to Sierra.
