Moon of Darkness: Chapter 5

Revelations

"Ignitus!?"

Though the dragon in front of them was blue and not red like they remembered, the face and body form was unmistakable, this was Ignitus.

"I thought you were dead" Spyro managed to ask, even though he was still in shock from seeing the dragon who had taught him so much,  who had become the closest thing he had to a farther and who he had seen die in the Ring of Fire.

Ignitus first looked at Zelda and Link "I am honored to meet you, bearers of the triforce."

"Likewise Ignitus." Answered Zelda. "Spyro has spoken very highly of you"

Ignitus smiled and then turned to Spyro "I am dead, Spyro" Ignitus said with a big smile. "But after my dead I became the new chronicler a task that's very hard to perform without a body. But now I have things to tell you and also things to give. But I first there is someone else you must meet."

With these words Ignitus stepped to the side and from behind him two persons walked forward. The first one was a man who resembled Link in clothing and appearance, the other was a beautiful Woman in dark clothing and with both dark and white skin.

"May I present the current chronicler of Hyrule, Link, and his wife Midna, former queen of the twilight realm." Said Ignitus. Both Link and Midna bowed and Spyro, Zelda and the others bowed in return.

"So you are the current Hero of Time like I was so many hundred years ago" Said chronicler Link.

Before Link had time to answer Sparx yelled out. "Whoa, whoa what is going on here. First you come back Ignitus and now we meet another Link. What is going on here?"

"Ah I guess a explanation is in order" said chronicler Link.

"So It would seem" Agreed Ignitus. "Very well. You are in the Sacred Realm. This is the place all good spirits travel too when they die and its physical manifestation you can see as the globe of light on the model is the source of the lights power and balance in your worlds. The specific part of the realm you are in is an armory for the Hero of Time. This is where all his weapons are when he isn't using them. We have brought you here to tell you of your foes and to prepare you for what lies ahead."

Spyro and the others nodded in understanding.

Chronicler Link continued "As you already saw the Moon of Darkness or the twilight realm as it is also called by those who live there, has stopped in its orbit and therefore destroyed the balance that existed in your two worlds. The man who did this was Ganondorf, the King of Evil. The sudden unbalance sent a wave of energy through all the worlds awakening ancient evil and creating temporary portals to the other realms. Fours evils were awakened."

As he talked the model of their worlds disappeared and was replaced by the evils one by one. First Malefor, but they already knew him so the image of him was quickly replaced by that of a man in a blue cloak.

"This is Vaati a powerful sorcerer and a master at controlling wind and energy" explained Link.  

Next was another man, this one however was draped in an elegant blue and black foreign armor, with a large helmet reassembling some sort of beast.

"This is Zant. He once tried to get control of the twilight realm, but I and Link stopped him. His movements in battle may seem random, but there is a cunning mind behind them" explained Midna.

The last image looked like Link, but completely black.

"And last of the evils is Shadow Link. He was created by Ganondorf long ago to battle Link and has since then grown in intelligence and power. It was him who possessed you Link" said Ignitus, while he looked at Link.

"These along with Ganondorf are trying to bring down the moon of darkness and will stop at nothing to achieve their goal and should they succeed Hyrule will be swept in an evil cloak which will never be lifted and their power will increase immensely as a result of it.

Spyro and the others listened in silence.  Zelda was the first to break the silence. "How long do we have before the moon falls?"

"Impossible to say exactly how long, but 1 or 2 weeks at most" Answered Ignitus. "But now I will ask that Spyro, Sparx and Cynder come with me."

"Zelda, Hunter will you please follow me" Said Midna also.

"Link follow me" said Chronicler Link.

They each went after the person asking for them.

Link followed Chronicler Link through the realm. Around him dozens of items, ranging from bombs to rupees where flying. At last Chronicler link stopped and turned around.

"Your mind contains much doubt and darkness. Do not let it cloud your thoughts or you will fail" Said Chronicler Link ominously. "Now draw your sword and I will teach you how to use it."

"It is good to see you two again" Said Ignitus as he was walking alongside Spyro and Cynder.

"Likewise" answered Cynder with a smile.

"I saw your marriage, though I regret not being able to there" said Ignitus and sighed. "The rules of a chronicler prevent me from saying to much about past or possible future, but I will say that you two need to hold on to your love, because it's a dark fight ahead" continued Ignitus in a grim tone.

"We defeated Malafor before we will do again. I promise you Ignitus" said Spyro.

"I am certain you will, but I am worried about what the cost of victory will be. Evil have never been this strongly united against the light before" said Ignitus. "Ah but I am getting all moody. There is something I have to give you."  

Ignitus stopped in front of two shields with a mirror like surface hanging in mid air. Taking a deep breath he blew a stream of fire at the shields. Through the Flames Spyro and Cynder could see the shields changing form, becoming armor made for dragons.

"This is my gift for you. Use this armor made from the heroes ancient shields to help conquer evil" said Ignitus with a smile.

He then turned towards Sparx. "I know you will always be there to encourage Spyro and guide him, but I will tell you that this time you play an important role in the events that will take place."

Zelda and Hunter walked with Midna towards a glass locker standing in middle of the platform they were on. When they reached it Hunter and Zelda could see the locker contained two bows. Midna took out the bows and handed them to Zelda and Hunter.

"These bows are the greatest ever made and where used by two different heroes of time, you will need them in the coming battle. Also Zelda I am giving you these" said Midna and gave Zelda three crystals. A blue, a green and a red. "These crystals are imbued with the essence of the goddesses themselves and will allow you to use their power. And for you Hunter I grant you this." Midna held forth a pair of boots. "These boots will when worn allow you to move at amazing speeds."

Zelda and Hunter thanked Midna.

As Zelda and Hunter walked back towards the place where they had arrived, Zelda asked "Midna, you are the queen of twilight from the legends, the one who helped the hero 500 years ago right? According to those legends you shattered the walkway between the twilight realm and Hyrule to protect Hyrule, despite you being in love with the hero of that time. If this is true then when did you see each other again?"

Midna was silent for a moment and then answered. "It is true. I loved Link very much, but I would not risk evil upon their world again. However the goddesses were merciful upon me and gave us a chance to be reunited."

Meanwhile Link and Chronicler Link had finished training.

"You possess natural talent. You will make a great hero" said Chronicler Link.

Link then asked "You are the Chronicler of Hyrule right, but what exactly is that?"

"A chronicler writes down all the major events that happen on Hyrule. When the Hero of Times, time is up, his spirit journeys here and becomes the new Chronicler of Hyrule in place of the former Hero. This is an ancient tradition dating back as long as the existence of Hyrule" answered Chronicler Link.

"You mean I will eventually replace you?" asked Link.

"Yeah that is what will happen, but now I got a gift for you" Chronicler Link reached into his clothes and drew forth an mask of elegant design and with many colors forming a pattern across it. "This is the fierce deity's mask, when put on it will change you into a mighty warrior. Use it to conceal your true identity. However remember this. The mask draws power from surrounding evil to fuel itself and is an evil tool brought under control. Never try to use the power of your triforce while wearing it or the light and dark power will tear you and everything around you apart in their struggle."

Chronicler Link threw the mask to Link. "Also remember that this is your armory, anything here can be brought forth into your hand if you wish it, no matter where you are. This is what allows the Hero of time to carry enormous amounts of items."

As they all gathered again where Spyro, Zelda and the others had entered the realm, Ignitus started speaking. "It is time for you to return to Hyrule and fight the evil there. Remember that the closer the moon gets, the stronger evil grows. Spyro and Cynder, I regret never being able to teach or tell you everything I wanted, but know that I am proud of you."

"You will always be the closest thing we ever had to a farther, Ignitus." Answered Spyro and Cynder together. A tiny tear rolled down from Ignitus eye when he heard this.

Chronicler Link turned towards Link. "Make all of us proud out there" he said.

Link looked back at him and saw over a dozen other people dressed like him standing behind the Chronicler Link, all looking at him. "I will" he answered.

Midna turned to Zelda. "If you need help in the fight, then my people have changed over the last 500 years and could help you, if you could get too them."

"I will keep that in mind" answered Zelda.

Spyro and the others all looked at Ignitus, The chronicler Link and Midna as light again enveloped them.
