Overwhelming Darkness

Link, Shadow Link and King Daphne slowly ascended the stairs to second part of the grand hall their weapons at the ready. This second part was dominated by the massive statue of the hero and before it on the floor was the sacred symbol of Hyrule, the sacred Triforce, carved out in stone in the floor.

However none of them took much notice of this as their eyes rested upon Ganondorf who was sitting atop the statue, watching them. "So you finally arrived" he said in a cold voice and then smiled. "Though I am surprised you are only three. I distinctly felt the presence of a fourth person as you fought my minions. Where is that person hiding now?"

"I am not hiding" said the Fierce Deity its voice clearly resonating in the great hall, though the source could not be seen. "But you can come down here and stand face to face with me if you dare!"

Ganondorf looked a little surprised at this challenge, but then smiled and leapt of the statue before floating to the floor below, his long red cloak billowing around his black armor. On the ground he looked at them for a moment seemingly searching for the source of the voice, until his gaze finally went to the halves of the mask on Link´s and Shadow Link´s faces. "As I thought, there was more to that mask than what I could initially feel.
What are you?"

"I am a warrior who has come a long way to face you, King of Evil" replied the Fierce Deity its voice almost dripping with a underlying anticipation and excitement.

"Interesting. I take it you were the one who saved this boy´s life then?" continued Ganondorf looking at Link and his gaze then shifted to Shadow Link "And made this servant of mine disobey my will?"

"It was and as much as I don't like it I have to thank it for that, for giving me a chance to be my own master, not some puppet on your strings" said Shadow Link as he raised his sword pointing it at Ganondorf. "You will soon learn that resurrecting me was the greatest mistake you ever made!"

Ganondorf chuckled. "Mistake, yes. I knew there was power in that mask, but I did not know it was a being onto itself in that lay my mistake, that and assuming the other half had been lost" said Ganondorf as he met Shadow Link´s gaze unflinching. "But my greatest mistake it is by no means. My greatest mistake was creating you in the first place instead of taking care of things myself and that is a mistake I am about to correct."

"We shall see about that!" exclaimed Shadow Link as he charged at Ganondorf.

Ganondorf raised his right arm and a golden glow appeared from the back of his hand before a wave of dark energy shot out at Shadow Link.

The wave struck Shadow Link straight on and he was knocked backwards across the room, crashing against the railing which prevented people from falling down to the lower part of the hall. Link and the King immediately raised their weapons, but Ganondorf surprisingly simply lowered his arm again and looked at the king.

"I must say I am curious as to why the King of Hyrule has not escaped long ago. What is left in drowning world to keep you around while your people runs for their life?" asked Ganondorf as if nothing had happened, though he still had an evil grin upon his face.

King Daphne stepped forward and meet Ganondorf´s gaze unflinching. "Even if this city gets destroyed, even if every single citizen flees and the land is flooded until it is nothing more than the sea floor, it will still be Hyrule, my Kingdom" said King Daphne with a firm regal voice. "This is where I lived, this is where I ruled and this is where I will die" he raised his sword in both hands. "But until I die I will defend this kingdom from you and any other darkness till the very end."

Ganondorf chuckled. "Admirable, truly admirable, but also foolish. You will die here, by my hand."

His gaze then shifted to Link who stared into the cold eyes. The evil and darkness emanating from that gaze was terrifying but Link did not even flinch beneath his glare.

"And you, we already know each other don't we?" said Ganondorf with a gleeful smile. "I owe you for waking me as well for this little present." Ganondorf raised his right hand and two golden triangles glowed on the back of his hand.

Link immediately felt a sting inside at the sight of the triangles as if there was a hole inside him where something had been taken.

Ganondorf seemed to see this in Link. "You want it back don't you? This power of the goddesses" said Ganondorf with a devilish grin. "But I like it right where it is, such a toy is too much for a boy like you any way."

With a quick motion Ganondorf lashed forward with his hand open and a ball of energy flew at Link.

Link saw the energy ball coming at him and drawing back his sword in preparation. Watching it closely as it came closer he timed his swing so that he struck the energy ball and for a moment energy crackled along the Master Swords blade before the energy ball was knocked away and dispersed as it struck the walls.

"It seemed you have some skills, boy" said Ganondorf as he lowered his arm. "But that won't help you."

Shadow Link had gotten to his feet and stood next to Link with a angry expression. "For someone who claims to wanting to do this personally you sure were quick to send your minions at us outside the temple" said Shadow Link raising his sword and shield again.

"Were you ever in real danger down there?" asked Ganondorf. "My minions will die anyway along with this land and I had no more use for them. Had one of them wounded or killed you it would have been fine, but I never expected any of that."

Shadow Link snorted. "Sounds like a bad excuse to me" he said.

Ganondorf simply smiled. "Then perhaps this will convince you of the futility of your actions" he said and the triangles on the back of his right hand began to glow.

As they watched him the light seemed to disappear around him as a black mist started forming around his hands, coalescing into an almost solid black shape and then extending outwards. As this happened Ganondorf spoke.

"I know not how long it has been since I stood against the Hero. Back then I had allies, just as he had, like you are standing here now. Back then I was defeated, though the hero´s death robbed them of the opportunity to kill me. They sealed me away instead, locked away my body and froze my mind."

Ganondorf spoke not to a specific person among them and indeed they were not even sure he was speaking to them. The shadows continued to coalesce around the black shapes in his hand which could now be identified as swords. He looked at them and now he was most certainly speaking to him.

"But I was alive and now I am back to claim what is rightfully mine! This land will be mine and the goddesses will not stop me, you will not stop me!"

The black mist disappeared from the blades and the shadows around Ganondorf disappeared revealing two long curved single edged swords with red hilts. He crossed them before him as he spoke again. "And you will be removed, forever."

"That is something only you think!" replied Shadow Link defiantly.

Ganondorf did not reply but charged forward straight at Link his swords raised.

Shadow Link and King Daphne immediately headed to either side while Link raised his sword and shield getting ready for the attack. As he watched Ganondorf approach he heard the Fierce Deity inside his head. "Remember last time you faced him. Though the battle was brief you did learn something about him, keep that in mind."

And Link remembered it that overwhelming strength he had felt when he tried to block Ganondorf's attack. He could not hope to stand directly against that, but maybe he did not have too.

As Ganondorf reached Link he attacked with a downwards strike with his right sword.

Link immediately raised the Master Sword, but instead of blocking Ganondorf's blow directly he angled the sword so that most of the blows strength slid of the blade, deflecting it towards the ground.

Ganondorf however did not seem to be surprised at all as he simply attacked with the other sword striking at Link´s right side.

However before the blow connected King Daphne came in blocking the blow with his own sword. The force of the blow made Daphne slide back across the ground a little before he found his footing and stood against the  unnatural strength behind the sword.

At that moment Shadow Link attacked from the other side and forcing Ganondorf to raise his other sword in defense, blocking Shadow Link´s blow.

However just as Link trusted his sword forward to attack Ganondorf´s exposed chest, Ganondorf leapt high into the air dodging the attack.

Up there Ganondorf hovered in the air and in a puff of black smoke his swords disappeared.
Instead he raised both his hands up and a crackling sphere of energy appeared above him.

The sphere grew in size for just a moment until Ganondorf let out a roar and the sphere exploded into a cascade of glowing energy rays falling down upon them like a rain.

However just before the rays hit them a blue sphere of energy enveloped Link, Shadow Link and King Daphne stopping the rays. Looking around him in surprise Link saw the five ancient sages standing at the edges of the sphere each with their arms raised.

"I was wondering if you would show up" said Ganondorf with cold laughter as he saw the sages.

"We will do our best to protect you" said the sage of light quickly as the blue sphere dispersed. "You have to defeat him."

"You don't have to tell me that!" snarled Shadow Link as he vanished into cloud of smoke which then moved rapidly towards Ganondorf reforming into Shadow Link as he performed a downwards strike against Ganondorf.

Ganondorf however simply raised his right hand his sword reforming in a flash and blocking the blow. "Were you not going to kill me?" he asked with a chuckle as he stared into Shadow Link´s face.

Shadow Link disappeared in a cloud of smoke again and just as he did four long strands of rope like orange hair enveloped Ganondorf's arms and legs holding him in place.
At that moment Shadow Link reappeared behind Ganondorf plunging his sword towards his neck.

But Ganondorf simply turned around with frightening speed and strength ripping apart the rope like and struck at Shadow Link´s side. Despite Shadow Link reflexes meant he raised his shield in defense, the blow still sent him flying into a wall and he fell to the floor with a pained gasp.

Link also writhed in  pain from the way Ganondorf had simply ripped apart his hair when he had tried to hold him.

He quickly had to recover however as Ganondorf surged down towards him the other sword reappearing in his left hand and he attacked Link and King Daphne with a flurry of blows.
Despite their best efforts and being two on one Link and King Daphne were forced backwards by the sheer strength in each blow from Ganondorf.

Suddenly however they found themselves standing with the back against the railing just above the lower part of the hall. As they stood there King Daphne counter attacked striking out with a powerful sweep from his massive two handed sword.

But Ganondorf blocked it as if it was nothing and pushed King Daphne aside.

He then turned to Link and deflecting an attack from Link, Ganondorf struck at Link´s right side. Link knew he could not go any further backwards and raised his shield in defense, putting all his strength into it in an attempt to stop Ganondorf.

And as the blow connected, Link did not move from the spot. But a terrible cracking noise sounded from the arm and an unbearable pain ran though Link´s arm from the force of the blow. At that moment Link felt his arm go limp and fall lifeless down his side, broken.
Ganondorf only smiled broader as he raised his sword again, but as he struck down he hit a blue sphere forming around Link.

Looking quickly his left Ganondorf saw one of the sages each with an arm raised towards Link. "Be gone with you!" snarled Ganondorf as the sword in his left hand disappeared and he instead launched a sphere of energy at the sage.

It struck the sage straight in the face and he turned into a cloud of sparkles which quickly vanished into thin air.

However as Ganondorf turned back to Link with his sword raised, King Daphne had gotten back on his feet and attacked Ganondorf, forcing him to divert his attention from Link. Link immediately attacked as well hoping to make use of Ganondorf being distracted by Daphne.

But Ganondorf effortlessly weaved out of the way of Link´s attack and one of his swords vanishing he grabbed Link´s arm and threw him across the room.

But as Link landed on the ground he saw Shadow Link appear behind Ganondorf and this time he managed to plunge his dark sword into Ganondorf's back.

Ganondorf let out a yell of pain and a wave of dark energy from him threw back both shadow Link and Daphne. But it was then Link saw the remaining four sages appear around Ganondorf. With their hands raised they used Ganondorf's moment of weakness to conjure up golden chains which bound him to the floor.

Link immediately got to his feet knowing that this would probably be his only chance. Taking up the Master Sword Link charged forward against Ganondorf.

As Link jumped the last few meters towards Ganondorf with the Master Sword raised high, Ganondorf's right hand started to glow with a golden light. Without warning it ripped through the chains binding him and raised it in against the Master Sword, stopping the tip with the back of his hand.

Blood ran down the hand as the Master Sword cut into the flesh, but it did not pierce and the golden glow of the two triangles on the hand grew stronger as if reacting to the Master Sword.

For a moment they stood there locked together, Link slowly trying to push through the hand, when suddenly the golden chains holding Ganondorf´s left hand broke and before Link could react a sword plunged through his chest.

At that very moment the tip of the Master Sword sank through Ganondorf´s hand right where the Triforce of Courage was and with an explosion of golden light Link was blasted away from Ganondorf.

He landed heavily on the ground right on top of the Triforce symbol in the floor. He was bleeding heavily from his wound in the stomach and could only slowly raise his head. The sight he saw however surprised him.

Hovering in front of him was a golden triangle, the Triforce of Courage and right beneath it lay the master Sword. Beyond it Ganondorf was seemingly stunned as he did not move. Everything was silent, everyone was watching the golden triangle.

But then suddenly Ganondorf let out inhuman roar and his entire body seemed to shift and bulge turning into some kind of pig monster towering above them all. Like that he charged towards the golden triangle throwing of the remaining chains with ease and killing two of the sages who tried to stop him.

But in the meantime Link had slowly gotten up on his knees. He could feel his life leaving him and despite wanting to reach out and take the Triforce of Courage as it seemed to call to him, he knew he could not protect it like this. Instead he made a quick decision, a decision he was not even sure would work.

Picking up the Master Sword he held it high above his head as he watched the pig monster come closer and closer and then right before it reached him he brought the sword down, shattering the Triforce of Courage.

I've seen Ganondorf's monstrous pig form before on Oracle of Seasons and Ages.
