The Blue Comet Festival

A year had passed since Demetrius release and it was midsummer in Warfang. The sun was shining brightly down upon the great dragon city and In the streets hundreds of dragons, moles, cheetahs, dragonflies and even a few Stonar were hurrying about putting up lanterns, brazier and other decorations to get the city ready for the evenings celebration.

Because this was the day of the Blue Comet, a celestial event which only happened once every ten years in the dragon world. When the Comet blazed across the skies during the night its blue light revealed far of worlds and different dimensions and some even said that the dead could appear during the night of the comet.

It was an event which had repeated itself as far back as any person could remember and it was mentioned in even the oldest writing in Warfang´s great library, it was a cause for celebration and it was a custom to bring family, a special friend or your loved one to watch the comet and not spending that night close to someone special to you was said to bring bad luck.

It was during the height of these preparations that a dragonfly made her way to the great library of Warfang.

"Now where is he?" mumbled Jacira to herself as she looked around the library for brother. After looking around for a few seconds she finally caught sight of him in the other end of the room. Flying closer she saw that he was given directions to a dragon about where a pile of books was to be put. He still had not noticed Jacira and that gave Jacira an idea.

"And the last book was requested by the Fire Guardian so bring it to her chambers once you put the other books back where they belong" said Craz to the yellow dragon in front of him and the dragon nodded before gathering up the books in a large bag hanging around the dragon neck and then swinging the bag onto his back.

Suddenly someone tapped Craz shoulder and he turned around, but to his surprise no one was there. Shrugging he turned back again and stared straight into Jacira´s smiling face. "Woah!" exclaimed Craz startled, but was cut short as Jacira gave him a hug.

Jacira released her brother, who moved a bit back trying to regain his composure. "How have you been little brother?" asked Jacira cheerfully.

"Quite fine sis, but what brings you here? Just here to say hello or is it something else?" asked Craz curiously as his sister rarely showed up in library even after her and Vynin had moved to Warfang
"Just wanted a bit of time for myself and thought I would come by to talk about what you have been doing the last year" said Jacira.

"If that is the case, the let us go to my room. The library is not really the place for a conversation" said Craz with a smile and Jacira nodded in agreement.

However to Jacira´s surprise her brother did not head for the door, but straight upwards towards the large chandelier hanging in the middle of the library. Flying past it, Jacira spotted a small hatch next to where the chains of the chandelier meet the ceiling. Opening it Craz flew inside.

Jacira entered after him and found herself in a large room cut into the stone ceiling. A single bed sat in one corner and on the table standing against the side of the room a host of smaller books and scraps of paper were lying in an unorganized mass. In the middle of the room was the main chain of the chandelier coming up through the ceiling and over in another corner stood what looked like a soft block of clay roughly cut in the shape of a dragon head.

"You live up here?" asked Jacira amazed.

"Yeah, I was appointed librarian a few months back and thought it would be nice to live close to my work. A green dragoness helped make it after the Guardians allowed it. I even think the earth guardian was happy about the arrangement as she mentioned something about how good it would be with someone to watch over the library from the inside during the night" said Craz while gathering up some of the books and scraps of paper. "But what brings you to Warfang? Is Vynin with you?"

"She is, we are actually planning on moving here like Cynder did. It is just not safe to be alone in a cave with Demetrius out there somewhere. Right now we are staying with Coldalar and Fliera until we find somewhere to live ourselves" told Jacira.

"And what about that black dragon ling Vynin is taking care of, what was his name again? Gravi? How is he doing?" asked Craz interested.

"Oh please don't mention Gravi. He is still small and sleeps most of the time, but he chases me around any chance he gets and licks me if he catches me. I am seriously considering wearing the armor whenever he is awake" said Jacira with a small shudder.

Craz could not avoid chuckling as he imagined his sister being held in place by a dragon ling and he quickly turned away and covered his mouth so she did not hear or see it. He knew she could get pretty irritated if you laughed of her.

She still noticed however and gave him a quick little hit in the side making Craz wince slightly from the pain, but it had only been a light hit.

Craz regained his composure and turned towards his sister again. "Is it true Vynin found Gravi´s egg in a ruin up north and decided to take care of it?"

"Is that the official story?" said Jacira with a smile like nothing had happened before.

"So it is not true?" asked Craz.

"Not in the least, but that is family business and it should be Vynin or Cynder´s choice to tell you" said Jacira.

"Okay, but at least tell me how Vynin and Gravi is doing" asked Craz a little bit disappointed.
"They are quite fine. Vynin is happier than I have seen ever since she choose to leave the cave in Avalar. Even if Gravi is not her child she is still treating him completely as such and it is clear that she loves it. It is very clear this was exactly what she needed to forget her own condition. Though I still wish Gravi would grow a bit faster and stop chasing me" said Jacira with slight note of irritation.
"Is it safe to assume you also came here to get a little bit of free time from Gravi?" asked Craz with grin.

"It is not to bad and we do have our fun sometimes, he can just be even more irritating than Vynin´s brothers sometimes which is a feat in itself considering they made it a game to ambush me"
continued Jacira, lying down on her brothers bed. "Speaking of which, I have not seen those two in a while now, where are they?"

"They are having history lessons with either Volteer or Cyril" answered Craz immediately and seeing his sister's confused look continued. "After Cynder and her children moved here to be near Spyro, the Guardians put Carx and Larshyr through series of tests to see if they were well educated young dragons. They off course passed the battle test with flying colors, but the general history was a tougher nut to crack. So they spend a few hours every day reading books here in the library or getting taught directly by Volteer or Cyril as I mentioned" told Craz with a small smile.

Jacira made a small chuckle. But she quickly turned serious as she asked "How about Larshyr, has he changed at all since last time?"

Craz took a deep breath. "No, he is still very silent and it only gets even more obvious he is in pain whenever I he is watching the other young dragons test their wings and fly around. Cynder has done what she can to liven him up, taking him for several flights on her back and doing everything she can to teach him to control his element. But it is no use at the moment. Carx has also become noticeably more silent and he only takes to the air rarely and mostly when Larshyr is not watching to not cause him pain. And the fact that their father is in the situation he is in does not make it any better."

"I am sorry to hear that, it is hard to imagine those two broken down. And there is still no improvement on purple misters part?" asked Jacira.

Craz simply shook his head.

They were quiet for several minutes after that and Craz simply continued arranging his books and scraps of paper. Jacira looked over some of the books. "Dragon History" "Age of Dreams" "The Chronicler: A Study on What He Is" "Legendary Purple Dragons" were just a few of the titles she read. It was all history related, not a single novel or piece of fiction, at least not that she could see.

"I see you are as obsessed with history of every kind as always" said Jacira as she watched her brother carry away some of the small books and scraps of paper and place it on a shelf with some other books.

"Yeah I am currently writing some smaller books on this world's history so we dragonflies won't have to rely on bigger person to take the books down from the shelves for us" answered Craz.

"And what about that, also a part of your work?" said Jacira looking towards clay block roughly looking like a dragon head.

Craz followed her gaze and stopped for a moment hovering in the air. "Ah, that is just a project for my free time, a work in progress" said Craz dismissively.

But Jacira knew she had something on her brother here and she was not going to let it go. "It looks quite nice, is it modeled after anyone in particular?" asked Jacira with clear interest.

"Not really, just the green dragoness who helped me make this place" said Craz again dismissively.

"Really? What is her name?" asked Jacira.

"Erthra" answered Craz shortly.

"Erthra. I am sure she will like it once you finish it" said Jacira.

"Really, you think so?" asked Craz eagerly.

"yep you always had a way with sculpting even if you were always to critical of your own work. Besides it is nice to see have a girlfriend" said Jacira watching her brother for how he would react.

Craz stiffened. "She is not my girlfriend, she is a dragon! We are just friends like you and Vynin!" exclaimed Craz.

"Yeah, yeah if you say so…" said Jacira in tone she hoped sounded unconvinced.

It worked as Craz began defending himself and Jacira simply started laughing at his attempts at talking her down. This discussion and other who followed carried on well into the evening.

Meanwhile, in another part of the castle a black dragoness was lying in her bed. In the room she was in stood darkness enshrouded dragon completely unmoving.

Cynder looked at Spyro with sorrow. Almost a year it had been since she had last heard his voice, felt his strong wings embrace her. She had tried to keep a brave face, to remain strong while searching for a way to release her love.

But Demetrius was gone and no expeditions had found even a trace of him and all attempts from hers or Blazirin´s side at removing the darkness had meet utter failure. And it was her fault he had ended up like this. If only she had not hesitated.

"Will we ever be together again, my love?" said Cynder out loud as if speaking to Spyro.

Their children remained her only solace, but not showing her fear and sorrow was a fight in itself, especially when faced with Larshyr and his injury.

No! She would not fall into a depression, the world still needed her whether her mate was there or not. Demetrius had to be stopped and sooner or later he would seek her out and when he did he would right in the middle of a hornets' nest. That was why she had moved to Warfang, for the safety of her children and to insure Demetrius would be at the worst possible odds should he choose to seek her out.

But tonight she would not worry about that. She would spend tonight at the festival with her children, maybe that could clear her mind.

She looked out the window and saw the sun setting. It was time to go to the festival.

A quick series of knocks on door to her chamber surprised Cynder. "Come in."

The one who entered was Blazirin, the fire guardian. "Oh good, you haven't left yet" said Blazirin panting a little as if she had been running to get to Cynder.

"What is it?" asked Cynder surprised. "I was just about to get Carx and Larshyr and go to the festival."

"That's exactly it. I think you should stay here, with Spyro tonight. I have already arranged for Coldalar, Fliera and Vynin to take care of Carx and Larshyr" said Blazirin quickly and eagerly.

Cynder was confused. "Why are you asking me this, I should be with my children on a day like this."

"And I think you should stay with Spyro and get some rest" said Blazirin.

"Why do you think you know what is best for me or my children?" asked Cynder irritated.

"I don't, but I think Ignitus does" said Blazirin with a smile.

Cynder fell silent, staring at Blazirin.
Hey Everyone

Light in the Dark is a story taking place after the video game Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon as well as all my other fan fics.

Alot of things have happened over the cause of those stories and it is best if people read the stories, but i am more than up for giving a resume for those who want to get into the story right now :)

The stories can be found under my tab Legend of Spyro and Cynder in my gallery and there is a chronology so you know in which order the stories take place: [link]

Here it is, the first chapter in my new short story. This chapter was just about explaining what has happened and what is happening in the dragon world since the end of Dark Love.

Also as the title suggests this story will be less Dark than Dark Love.
